Bespoke Fine Furniture

"Fine Furniture making, Restoration and Cabinet Making"

serving Lincolnshire, Rutland, Cambridgeshire & Northants.

What, When, Why...?

My name is Frank Holcombe and twenty seven years ago I decided to build my workshop.
I constructed a timber frame building and two years later, I took the plunge, registered as a sole trader and ever since, I have been making Bespoke fine furniture.

....How....?

Form and function are in a constant state of flux, however the detail is a constant.

Achieved through time honoured traditions, not all aspects of the detailing will be apparent when taking delivery of your latest commission. Often this level of detailing will only reveal itself in time, nevertheless the detail is there.
My medium is an ever increasing precious commodity and demands respect, consequently the very breath of the wood should be allowed to shout forth. The juxtaposition of contrasting grain or the companionship of a sister species are invariably exploited to create a design no man can match.

"My workshop is located within the rural heartlands of South Lincolnshire: invariably the commissions will reflect their environs and period properties."

"He who works with his hands is a labourer.
He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman.
He who works with his hands, head and heart is an artist."

Not the ordinary

Across the Board...!!

Unique:

Occasionally my work can be diverse or simply a personal  indulgence, either way, they are always unique.

Detail:

No matter what form the commission takes, small or large, it will never be short on detail.

Design:

Commissioned - Bespoke - furniture will always be as individual as you. Alongside many features, design will always be a priority.
Designed to perform,
Designed to fit,
Designed for you.

Designed for you.

A commission need not be....furniture.... it can simply be beautiful, precise and personal.

'Tuck Box' with graduated hand cut dovetails' Made from one of the few remaining fallen Elm Trees near Peterborough.

It's in the detail

Much of my work contains fine detailing, exploiting the natural
characteristics of the host timber and always conducted by hand.

Circular occasional table made from the client's own 'Bog Oak' , salvaged from the Cambridgeshire Fens, having been submerged in the mire for about 6,000 years.

My career in the trades started very early

Quickly progressing to "pipe fitters mate"

At the age of 12, I was promoted to "chippy" , preparing dormer window installations.

Some years later I would refine my craft.
